The "progressive" (i.e., left-wing) social media outrage mob has been the "norm" in the Trump era. It's just that they were caught red-handed for their shameful jump-to-the-worst-conclusion tactics when it came to the MAGA-hat-wearing "smirking" kid, is all. (By the way, who wouldn't "smirk" if someone got up in their face all obnoxious-like, banging a drum like that? The real issue here is the MAGA hat, and everyone knows it.) It's just that it's considerably harder to pin them down on their dishonest hysteria when (e.g.) they scream that some Trump statement is a racist dog-whistle, is all. What they're doing is downright scummy in either case, it's just harder to prove this in some cases than in others.
(Actually, it isn't all that hard to prove -- using basic tools of philosophy -- just how scummy they were being in their attempts to destroy Kavanaugh. Just for instance.)
It's only because she was caught red-handed that the likes of New York Times' Kara Swisher had to issue an apology, is all.
The only thing the "progressives" might be expected to learn from this episode is not to be so obviously scummy, is all.
